How much does it cost to run a heat pump?

There isn’t a clear answer to this question, as there are many variables that need to be accounted for.
The electrical consumption for the heat pump itself varies depending on the temperature outside and inside. Typically a heat pump runs around 300% to 400% efficient.  Other factors include: what temperature is the heat pump set on, how well is the home insulated and how much humidity is outside. The more humid it is, the harder the heat pump needs to work to keep warm. But generally a small to medium heat pump will consume around NZ $1 to $1.5 a day in Dunedin. A larger heat pump might cost up to NZ $3.
